I would just like to point out that it is about 10 months until the next Olympics in Rio! I am very excited, especially about the athletics part of it, although I also love football and cycling.
I would also like to promote sport. There is a sport out there for everyone, it's just a matter of being bothered to find it. Find one and as well as keeping you fit and making you happy, you may get to national level one day! Even if you are in a school or something that has bad facilities, then get out and maybe do a bit of research. And yes I know that is boring but it is fun if the outcome is, indeed, you finding an activity that you love. That's it for now folks, thanks for reading!

Here we have it - the results! I got 11:00 for my time and came 13th. I was running against Year 7s and 8s and some older Year 6s as well - I was a Year 8. I was pleased with my performance but think I could have gone faster in the last 200m - my brain just switched off.
I hope you are all getting along with your running well! I have another cross-country in two weeks' time and it is a really hilly one! Never mind. I have a cross-country race - the first one of the season where I will be racing for my club. The course itself is muddy, wet and cold (because that's cross-country), undulating (however much I don't know yet) and 2.7km. It is supposed to be 2.5km but that was the closet they could get to it.
Before the race I will walk the course, to know where to speed up and slow down, and where the hills are. Then I will warm up thoroughly, then I will race! Afterwards I will warm down thoroughly and go home. I will update, probably tomorrow, about how I got on. Bye for now! I have a training session coming up in an hour and a cross-country race next Saturday, when I will be running for my club. I am really excited because there are two years racing in the cross-country I will be running in and I am in the top year. It is 2.5km and hilly, probably muddy and cold - because that is the typical cross-country conditions! I have done a 2.5km in the summer holidays at CarFest in the Great Festival Dash, and I got a time of 10:30. Search into Google 'CarFest Great Festival Dash 2015' if you are interested in that.
That is a good time for my because last season I was getting 11-or 12:00, for the same distance. I am improving! But we have the training session tonight first to do first! I don't know what we will be doing so we will wing it! As it is cross-country season now we are doing more cross-country-related training sessions, so endurance runs on the grass with short rests or just one big run. I prefer these types of sessions to the fast-paced long sprints on the track that we did in the summer track season, but I still enjoy it. Remember, whatever you do, you have to enjoy it. There is no point in doing something for the sake of it if you do not find it fun. We had a good training session last night. I haven't been to training all summer holiday so it was nice to go again. We did 3x300m with a 90 second rest in between each one, then 3x200m, again with a 90 second rest, then 3x100m with 90 seconds rest. There was a 5 minute rest in between each set.
That would be a good training session to do, as long sprints and tempo runs are the best way to get fit. Keep running! I ran for Kent the on Sunday the 26th of July, in Kingston. I ran in the non-scoring 800m and got a new PB: 2:35 which was 3 seconds off my original PB, 2:38. I was very happy with that.
Also, before that, I did a race in Lewes for my club. I did 1200m and knocked 10 seconds off my PB so my new one was 4:08. I came 2nd in the race out of 6, well, I drew 2nd with another girl; we got exactly the same time! Happy summer! I have got a new PB at ParkRun! On Saturday I did one and got 21:36. I was extremely happy and give many thanks to my great pacer.
Also, I have been doing lots of races on the track lately, in two leagues. I run for my club and I usually do 1200m (because at my age you don't usually get 1500m, I don't know why) or 800m. My best time for 1500m is 5:33, my PB for 1200m is 4:18, and my best for 800m currently stands at 2:38. I am trying to get that one down though as I am doing a lot of 800s at the moment. Why don't you try running for a club? Sign up and join, and maybe one day you'll be old enough and good enough to run for them. Finally, I would like to tell you about the Power of 10. It is a great website that records all of your official times that you run. Here is the link to the homepage of it: http://www.thepowerof10.info/ See you soon happy runners! This time I have done just under 5km in 21:19. I was running on the road rather than in a park and there were only 2 people running rather than around 300.
Beginners do 3-4km, Mediums do 4-5km and Advanceds do 5-6km. If you want to do further, great, but it's entirely up to you. Have a nice run! I have completed a ParkRun in 22mins 28seconds (22:28). Don't know what ParkRun is? Follow this link: http://www.parkrun.org.uk/
I would strongly recommend a ParkRun. It is basically a 5km run around a park or a countryside area. My Personal Best or PB is 21:59. I think that you should start running fast, then slow down to a steady pace, then have a strong finish. This is mainly because a lot of people have a sprint finish and you don't want to lose a few places at the end! Beginners should aim for anywhere between 34:00 and 26:00, Mediums around 25:59 and 21:00, and Advanceds go for 20:59 and 17:00. If you can get faster than that then keep going, you'll almost be Olympic standard! Happy running :) Do the same warm-up as last time, and this time go for an Easy Run. Beginners do an easy 2-mile run, mediums do an easy 3-mile run and advanced go for an easy 4-mile run. Here are some more stretches to do...
Below: Calf stretch Below that: Touch your toes!! Calf stretch again. Also, go for a 400metres - 600m warm-down, which, if you don't know, is basically a really slow jog for the required distance. |

If you are finding it hard to get into running, I highly recommend parkrun. It is very welcoming and encourages people of all abilities to get fit and have fun!
